Topic #3 - The Games We Play

Our Lehighton High pitchers and catchers warm-up off the
field before their game with Pine Grove.
A Day in the Life of Lehighton High School sports.  Today our girls softball team squared up with Pine Grove High School and so did our boys baseball team.  Our Track and Field team (Boys and Girls) had practice.  These are our competitive inter-scholastic high school sports.  We also have Middle School Track.  Our townships also have organized youth baseball and softball at this time of year.

Our school age children also do less organized sports, such as pick-up football or soccer, cat's cradle or Double Dutch.  We also have bike riding trails and of course video games!
This is the "on-deck" batters area off to the side of our
dug-out or team bench.

We have an 8-lane straight away on our track for 100 meter
dash and hurdles.  We have 6 lanes that go all the way around
for 400, 800, 1600, and 3200 meter races.

Here both our Middle and High School teams practice
their high jumps on our all-weather track.

Coach Brong, who is retiring this year, has had a long
and successful career coaching our throwing athletes.
Here a Middle School student throws a discus.

Here a High School student throws a 12-pound (1.6 kg)
shot put, which is a solid metal ball

Lehighton's pitcher prepares to throw against Pine Grove's
hitter.  Four "balls" (a pitch outside the strike zone) causes
a batter to take a free base.  The pitcher wants to give
three strikes to a batter to get him out.  Three outs in
one inning allows your team to get to bat.  Home teams
always bat second.
